Mangiare in Giappone
[English]
Eating in Japan is a pleasure. Japanese cuisine is certainly different from the Italian one. Yet if you believe you wouldn't be able to adapt to Japanese cooking, just be aware that Japanese love Italian cooking and you'll find plenty of western and Italian places to eat. So there is no problem in finding restaurants where to ear spaghetti or pasta. On the contrary I would say japanese in many cases are able to cook spaghetti better than italians. I've much appreciated italian spaghetti with tomato in not top class places managed by japanese and with japanese cooks.
But japanese cooking deserves more than a try. Why not adapt to it? I've tried and it looks like I appreciate more and more although I have to return to italian after some japanese meal.
You have to consider that at lunch time you have plenty of possibilities. Many places offers a fixed menu very convenient and cheap. In some cases you pay half or less that what would you spend at dinner for the same courses. And you have to consider that with 600, 700 or 800 yen you could have a very good lunch in some cases. The meal would be a small one, yet it may be what you are looking for. You would typically eat a main course, a small salad and a beverage (normally tea or coffee).
Something unique in japanese restaurants are the meal "models" shown at the shop windows. They show nearly perfect replicas of the meals you will find in the menu. Trust me, the course will be almost exactly what you see. Eat what you see , you could say. So it would be easier to choose without really knowing the name of the course.
